Tierra de Castilla

Spain - Tierra de Castilla

Vino de la Tierra de Castilla is a large denomination formed in 1999 taking in winegrowing areas outside the DOs of north east and central Spain. Vino de la Tierra de Castilla lies east and south of Madrid – not to be confused with Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y Leon which is notha and north-west of the capital.

Vino de la Tierra (wine of the land) is a Spanish appellation system that is less regulated and strict than the Denominación de Origen classification. It offers consistent quality and great value.

To be able to use the classification ‘Vino de la Tierra’ the wines (grapes) have to come from a recognized geographical area. This area will have to have specific growing conditions that will influence the quality of the grapes grown in this area and sets it apart from grapes grown outside of this area.
