Lamberti Rosso Garda
Regional grape varietals Groppello and Corvina, along with the international Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, are used in this aromatic blend – a modern interpretation of the terroir of the Garda region.
The appellation Garda – a Lombardy DOC created in 1996 that includes the southern shores of Lake Garda, the largest Italian lake, extending to Bardolino and Valpolicella in Veneto. Vineyards are at about 200 metres above sea level; alluvial, well-draining soils rich in gravel.
Harvested in September, after crushing and destemming, the grapes are separately fermented in steel tanks at a controlled temperature (usually 24–26°C) for 5–7 days with frequent pump-overs. Primary fermentation is followed by malolactic fermentation which softens the wine, and then rests in steel vats for a few months.
Pale ruby red / garnet colour. Black cherry and wild berries (blackberries, raspberries, blackcurrants) on the nose are accompanied by pleasant spicy notes, while the lively palate vaunts soft tannic structure and nicely a balanced richness.
Recommended cellaring is 2 years.
Food pairing: cured meats, flavoursome starters, red meat and poultry.
About the Producer
Lamberti
Lamberti is named after one of Verona’s oldest noble families, which has its own famous tower in the city’s Piazza delle Erbe.
The winery was founded in 1964 in Cavaion (province of Verona), originally producing just Bardolino Classico. Lamberti is now one of Verona’s leading wineries sourcing wines from Veneto and Lombardy.
The original cellars are located in Cavaion on Lake Garda, on the Tenuta Preella estate, whose name means “small stone” in local dialect.
In 1994 they began to build an out-and-out winery on the foundations of the old Tenuta Preella barn. This modern pressing plant is now the jewel in the crown of the estate and boasts state-of-the-art winemaking machinery, able to process a total capacity of about 4,000 hectolitres.
Whilst Tenuta Preella is where Lamberti winemaking takes place, bottling is located in the large, modern Pastrengo plant, a few kilometres away.
All Tenuta Prella vineyards are farmed without the use of chemical herbicides to manage weeds in the vineyards. Integrated plant health protection is preferred, using substances with low environmental impact, green management methods and stimulation of natural pest regulation.
The heart of the estate remains the farmhouse. The records of this ancient dwelling date back to the mid-1500s, found on an old print illustrating the territory between Cavaion and Calmasino, where the area is indicated with the words “Contrà Predelle”. Nowadays this is Lamberti House, a tavern where it is possible to buy all the wines of the company.
