Padró & Co wanted to add to their range a vermouth using their special solera wine – a sweet Tarragona Clásico-style liqueur.
This liqueur has been aged for 5 years in 7,000-litre oak vats that have been used in the winery for generations.
A small amount is added in the final vermouth coupage, together with a special selection of herbs, and then aged for at least 18 months in sherry casks.
Liqueur wines from Tarragona enjoyed great prestige internationally around the end of the 19th century. At that time Padró were making such liqueurs in the style of other “great wines”: Port, Sherry or Sauternes. In 1947, these fortified wines were the first to be regulated within the Tarragona Denominación de Orígen or Appellation and were given the name Tarragona Clásicos.
