Primus – 30L Keg
Haacht made their reputation by brewing Belgium’s first Pilsner lager – predating Stella Artois.
Launched in their home market in the 1920’s as the first ever Belgian Pilsner, Haacht took this East European beer style and created something distinctly Belgian; in turn driving the growth of Belgian Pilsner across Western Europe.
Haacht is the third-largest Pilsener brewery in the Belgian market, behind Jupiler and Stella Artois. They rebranded their Pilsner to the name Primus in 1974, but remaining faithful to its unchanged original recipe.
The beer takes its name from Jan Primus, the Duke of Brabant. In the 13th Century he was one of the most powerful feudal lords, significantly showing his appreciation for beer by the special privileges he granted to brewers.
Lagered for 14 days as part of the brewing process it has been brewed to the same Haacht Pils recipe for 100 years and at the traditional standard Belgium strength of 5.2%.
Haacht brewery was founded in 1898. With over 125 years of brewing experience Haacht remain a true family-run brewery, now led by the fourth generation, and have choosen to stay proudly independent.
Clear, light-blond in colour with a fine head. Delicate hoppy aromas usher in a flavour that is initially slightly sweet with a touch of bitterness. There then follows the dry and thirst-quenching aftertaste.
