The brewing history of Windhoek is intrinsically linked to the city it shares its name with and the history of Namibia as a whole. As a former German colony, the country has a long history of brewing and makes classic pale lagers in the style of their ancestors back in Europe.

Namibia Breweries Limited was founded in 1920 when Carl List and Hermann Ohlthaver acquired four small breweries with the aim of producing one single, outstanding beer to become the leading beer of the nation.
