Wheat Beer Specialists Since 1300

Kuchlbauer Brewery, located in Abensberg, Bavaria, has a history that dates back to 1300, making it one of the oldest and most respected breweries in the region. Over the centuries, it has been passed down through generations of the Horsch family, with each new steward maintaining the brewery's commitment to traditional brewing methods and high-quality beer. In the 20th century, the brewery made a bold step towards innovation while staying grounded in its heritage.

A significant chapter in its history was the partnership with renowned Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser in the late 1990s, which led to the creation of the iconic Kuchlbauer Tower. This artistic collaboration, though completed after Hundertwasser's passing, symbolizes the brewery's blend of tradition, art, and modernity, reflecting its continued evolution over the centuries.

“Beer is pure satisfaction that cannot be manufactured, but rather develops over time.”

Michael Salleck, 6th Generation Brewer

The brewery has been under the stewardship of the Horsch family for over a century, with Jacob Horsch currently representing the 9th generation.

Under their leadership, the brewery has remained committed to traditional brewing methods, producing a variety of wheat beers while emphasizing sustainability and community engagement

In 1999, Leonhard Salleck, then owner and general manager of the brewery, collaborated with renowned Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser to design the Kuchlbauer Tower.
